Union Budget 2015 key tax highlights

Budget 2015 key tax highlights:
1. Corporate tax rate to be reduced to 25% from existing 30% for next 4 years
2.  Beneficiaries of foreign assets mandatorily required to file returns irrespective of the income
3. Imprisonment of 10 yrs for non-disclosure of black money
4. Foreign asset may get seized if undisclosed
5. PAN mandatory for any transaction for Rs. 1 lakh or more
6. Mere presence of project fund manager in India shall not be construed as Permanent Establishment of offshore funds
7. Income tax on royalty fees for technical services to be reduced to 10% from 25%
8. Abolishment of wealth tax
9. Additional surcharge of 2% on high networth individuals having taxable income of more than Rs. 1 Crore
11. Service tax rate increased to 14% from existing 12.36%
12. Central Excise duty increased to 12.5% from existing 12.36%
13. Service tax and Central excise registration certificates to be issued in 2 working days
14. Health insurance premium deduction limit is increased to Rs. 25,000 from existinh Rs. 15,000
15. All investment made in favour of girl child to be exempted
16. Transport allowance deductibe for tax purpose to be increased to Rs. 1600 pm from existing Rs. 800

Maximum  for normal individual as per Finance Minister

Basic Exemption - 250000
80 C - 150000
80 D - 25000
Transport Allowance - 19200
Total - Rs. 4,44,200/-

    MUMBAI - Following are highlights of the Railway Budget for 2015-16
(Apr-Mar), presented by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in Parliament today:

FARES, FREIGHT
* Emphasis on gauge conversion over next 5 yrs
* Must run fast trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi
* To up track length by 20% to 138,000 km next 5 years
* Must substantially regain freight mkt share
* No hike in passenger fares

HYGIENE BOOST
* To have professional agencies for railways cleaning
* Ensuring higher standards of cleanliness a priority
* Swachh Rail to be a driving force
* To create new dept for clean stations, trains

MISCELLANEOUS
* 1,219 sections on high density network
* Railway is a unique integrator of India
* Investment in railways to create more jobs
* Under-investment led to reduced efficiencies
* Capacity augmentation suffered over the years
* Railway facilities have not improved in last few decades
* Minister: Cycle of poor invest in railways must end
* Minister Prabhu begins FY16 Rail Budget speech in Lok Sabha
* Aim to make rail a safer means of travel
* Need tighter control on costs
* Freight carrying capacity to be raised to 1.5 bln tn
* Aim to make rail financially self sustainable

* Railway FY16 operating ratio seen 88.5%
* To partner with PSUs to transport coal, iron, cement
* Tie up with multilateral, bilateral bodies for overseas tech
* Railway invest to need multiple sources of funding
* Will partner with pvt sector to modernise stations' infra
* To partner with multilateral agencies for fund access
* Railway envisages 8.5 trln rupee invest in 5 yrs
* To partner with PSUs to build capacity for freight movement
* Railway to partner pvt sector for last mile connectivity
* States can raise finance through SPVs
* This budget part of trilogy of vision to improve railways
* Improvement of connectivity an imperative
* Vision 2030 document later this year
* Aim 30 mln daily passenger carrying capacity in next 5 yrs
* Railway Budget proposals be seen as part of 5-yr plan
* Aim to invest on ongoing basis in depreciating assets
* Sustained, measurable improvement in travel experience a goal
* Need material improvement in operating capacity

   For every additional 10 km slab above 50.0 kms.  rise of ` 10 in adult fare & ` 5 in concessional fare for Ordinary, Limited & Express services and rise of ` 20 for AC Service. Adult fares are including ` 0.15 Nutrition Surcharge.
For journeys beyond Mumbai Municipal Corporation limits, additional charge of ` 1 on basic fares of Ordinary, Limited & Express services & additional charge of ` 5 on basic fares of AC services.
Concessional bus fares are for children below the age of 12 years.
A flat fare of ` 2 for totally blind persons, irrespective of distance travelled (except on AC
service)
   Luggage fare will be equivalent to the corresponding adult fare, subject to maximum ` 30 for Ordinary / Limited services, ` 35 for Express services & ` 100 for AC service.
   As per Govt. Notification, Home Dept. No. MVA-0604/ CR-075/ TRA-2 dated 20th Dec.
2005, Where the place of boarding the stage carriage or the place of alighting from the stage carriage is not a stage point approved by the Regional Transport Authority concerned, the distance travelled shall for the purpose of charging fare, be calculated from the immediate preceding stage point so approved or the case may be the
immediately succeeding stage point so approved.
